Her black hair was styled in a vintage updo, adorned with a tortoiseshell hairpin. Pearl pendants swayed gently with her movements in her earlobes. Her fingers were long and slender, her nails painted a dark red that shimmered under the chandelier. I reclined in the high-backed massage chair, the cushions as soft as clouds. Before pouring in the oil, she sprayed rose hydrosol into the air, then warmed my back with her palms. Her technique combined European lymphatic drainage with deep tissue massage, especially on the shoulders and neck. After several rounds of gliding motions, even the stiffness from long hours of desk work noticeably loosened. When her fingertips brushed against the ribcage, the body instinctively tensed up; she paused, then covered the area with her large palms to soothe it. At the end, she offered a chilled champagne glass of lemonade—a luxurious atmosphere concealing restrained professionalism.
